A Word from the President

The Golden Jubilee Reunion was organized to bring together alumni from across India and abroad to reconnect with their Alma Mater and contribute towards its development. The reunion also aimed to support the construction and development of college infrastructure, especially the library building. The overwhelming response from alumni reflected their deep attachment and gratitude towards the institution.

History of the College

History of Government College Dharamsala

Government College Dharamsala was founded in 1912 in the scenic Kangra Valley under the Dhauladhar mountain range. It began as an Intermediate Arts College in 1926 and became a Degree College in 1948. Over the years, new subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Commerce, Economics, Geology, Hindi and English were introduced.

Postgraduate classes were later started, making the college one of the important educational institutions in Himachal Pradesh. The college expanded its infrastructure, library, hostels, sports facilities and academic departments over the decades.

The library grew into one of the largest college libraries in Himachal Pradesh, and the institution produced many distinguished alumni who served in administration, education, defence services and public life.

College Library Development

The college library started in 1926 with a small collection of books and gradually expanded over the years. By the 1970s and 1980s, it became one of the largest college libraries in Himachal Pradesh with thousands of books and research journals.

NCC

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

The NCC unit of the college started in 1935 and played an important role in student development, discipline and national service.

Sports

Sports and Games

Football, Cricket, Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton and Table Tennis were major sports in the college. Girls also actively participated in sports activities.
